Poetry || SubmissionsWe're Going out again\zohar 2/26/03going out again tonight. It never stops. You think you've lived through it once And that should be enough. It becomes your way of life, You sleep when you can, Share your bed with your gun. In the beginning I prayed. But so did my friends, Most didn't come back. I don't pray anymore. Just do my best. I kill the fear And fight the war By killing men and asking for more. I am what you'd call a soldier. But I am just a guy in a uniform That really wants to make it back home. You learn to cope with the noise At night, at day, all the time The shouting, the shots The faces of innocent people And those waiting until you turn around. We're going out again tonight, They're saying it's going to be one of those wild nights When anything can happen When you find out about new ways to die I should call my mom, don't really have the time I'll call her tomorrow. I'll be fine. "Gone" \Zohar We will meet again \ When this mess is over with I'll come to you \ And it will all be like then I know with every breath of mine One of yours is dying. At night, all the words you've ever said to me \ Flow in to me, in a terrible noise of one whisper. Every sun-set, for every day we've ever spent Packed in to one memory, faded yellow. We will meet again \ It can't be otherwise That a love such as this, should shout at the sky To be left unanswered. I won't let it be \ You're still here with me I know. They didn't kill you \ You would never agree To die, with out me With out reason or warning. You stayed, hanging between life and death And you've returned to me \ You're sitting next to me Arguing what to watch on TV \ Trying to make me laugh And you almost succeed. You know, If you go, I have nothing So you stayed Because I don't want to go on alone. And you promised that nothing would happen \ That you'd come back on the weekend So, it just can't be, it's wrong \ This time truth will prevail. When they said your name on the news I laughed; they don't know it's not true Guns don't kill, only words do! So as long as I keep writing you You're still with me, still alive, still breathing Still dreaming, still loving Still trying to make me laugh And almost succeeding. Talking to god\Zohar(translated from hebrew) 11/30/02 You talk to god Long discussions about the confusion The landscape here, the army About the parents that refuse to listen When you say you want to leave the country. You tell god About those who died, how they were friends of yours You repeat the names over and over So that god remembers how good they were You ask, what you did to deserve Not to die in their place, or with them. So young. Why did you get to move on? Leaving them in their youths? You ask god, demanding an explanation "If you took away Lebanon, why did you give us Palestine?" Why did he put you on that last tank? In the exit? So you could see the post filling-up with hizballa Why did he put an m-16 in your hand? Then pumped you with a conscience and compassion? You talk to god Quietly at night so that no one will hear It's bad here, you don't want to see anymore green You gave three years regular and one officers year You volunteered for combat And you saw "lions" fall And today you're talking to god.
