Poetry || SubmissionsTwo poems by Mike Wunkel A few moments with Tom Waits, a beer and a woman named Sara I got up one morning hungover and went to the refrigerator, and got a beer. I then put on Tom Waits Blue Valentine CD. After that I walked back to bed, and asked the woman lying next to me, an overweight blonde about 40, who I had met at the bar the night before, what she said her name was? 'Sara', she said. 'Sara, I like that name. That was the prostitute's name in leaving Las Vegas'. 'Well I'm no whore', she said. 'We're all whores,' I said. We were then both silent. Fortunately Waits wasn't. He was singing about a hooker from Minneapolis. A short ugly scene between friends I saw a guy once, about 5'10, 220, beat a guy with red hair and an artificial leg, who was a friend of his, into unconsciousness. It took place in the mid 90's, behind a bar called The Blue Penguin. The fight started because the guy with red hair called his friend a fat ass one too many times. It didn't take long before the guy with red hair was lying face down on the cement. He had a glass jaw. While he was on the cement the guy who knocked him out pulled his artificial leg off and hit him repeatedly with it. Then the guy pulled out his dick and pissed on the guy with red hair. It all took about 30 minutes. A short ugly scene between friends. Mike Wunkel says he is a married, 35 year old factory worker with no children, who grew up in a blue-collar suburb of Detroit, Michigan. You can write to him at wunkelm@peoplepc.com Today's Situation
