Poetry || SubmissionsKeeping Their DistanceBy Joshua Weitz Across the field, maybe they kept their distance, the fires burning on the hilltops and the throng of rams and ewes shivering next to one another. Maybe Jacob stopped in his tracks, his pack-mules weighed down with silver coins and silver bars. In the center of things, they probably clasped forearm to forearm, and Jacob, whose very bones trembled in their joints might not have held his ground had it not been for the steadying grace of his forgotten brother. Or as sometimes done, maybe they both stretched out one hand to the inner thigh of the opposite, squeezing each other's flesh so desperately until neither of them could remember, who was Jacob and who was Esau. Joshua Weitz is a 27 year old doctoral candidate in physics at MIT. His first book of poems, Between Two Stones, was recently published by Sheep Meadow Press and is available widely, including at Amazon Visit his web site at http://www.betweentwostones.com Today's Situation
