Poetry || SubmissionsGathering In JordanBy Rowena Silver It is the similarities that strike us The mouths of mourners in an wail of loss Tears which know no know no province know no sect In Amman, a man is washed then buried in a simple shroud While sounds of bagpipes, bells and prayers ascend A king in laid to rest on CNN while millions watch and millions say Amen Yes, this is the way the world could be, With all the presidents alive enough to come and kings and princes somber at his side He walked a narrow and precarious path Yet stood as firm as any man can stand And all affirm his courage, praise his deeds and mourn his loss And yet, no woman queen or minister of any land invited to walk with in this grand cortege I know it is not time, it is not custom for gentle, scented hands beside the coffin And yet, as I am wont to wish a world entente I also wish a world where women count More poems by Rowena Silver at Ariga Today's Situation
