If you run out to buy fresh rolls and cheese I'll make the salad and we can have a proper meal to make up for the sleepless night. Go on I'll set the table just for two now she's asleep, at last. We interrupt this broadcast… 7 a.m. Thank God you're home. I lay awake all night picturing you both in some dim discotheque with music loud enough to wake the dead. No matter, now you're here. I'll heat some milk to settle you and help you get some rest before you go to school But where's your sister? We interrupt this broadcast… 7a.m. No, don't get up. I don't have time to eat. I'll grab a coffee on the train and drink it on the way to keep me up so I can work on all the stuff I dragged home in my briefcase. But don't forget to wake the kids in time for school. See you tonight. We interrupt this broadcast to announce a bomb… In Terr Upt In tear up And the week is just beginning. Ricky Friesem is a writer, editor and award-winning documentary filmmaker. For 25 years she worked as a journalist and editor for Israel's Weizmann Institute of Science whose Communications Department she headed for over a decade. She has written two cook books: Fruits of the Earth (Adama Books, 1985) and Joy of Israel (Steimatzky, 1976). Currently she is working on a poetry collection. Her poems have appeared in Moment, Poetica, Ariga, and Poetic Voices. Born in Canada, she moved to Israel with her scientist husband and three sons in 1972. Today's Situation
