Poetry || SubmissionsChristine MooneyFire Pink Wayfew people will tell youwhat goes on at Fire Pink Way. But i know, i was there once. they take photos and draw and cut dolls from last week's newspapers. they go to wednesday night mass but tell everyone they've gone in search of art. i've seen their castles and their moats of coffee stains and soda cans and shattered glass. they climb steep staircases with freshly-squeezed o.j. and hum wake-up calls to God by eight am. and when no one looks, Fire Pink Way dims and quiets and the attic mice tuck in the dust bunnies and then the gasoline fireplace clicks on. finally, the electrons and protons and neutrons can settle in for the night. Foreign Filmstonight's purity permeates, even so, winter's chastity melts with each degree risen. i strode naked across the wooden floor this evening, in front of the dog. but it is my brother's dog and i vomited across the kitchen sink- vomited brass knuckles and machine guns and the little pink carnation that lasted three weeks, and even the irregular vase it blossomed in. i miss the depression when i think it brought me closer to the humanity i understand in my happiness. if a wine glass gently caressed my chapped fingertips, i would drink all of it and then several glasses more. maybe the gasoline fireplace (which i hate for its faked ingenuity) would click on and the wine bottle would crash into the faux-timber. i would dose myself in alcoholic flames. and i would be happy again. but i will blame it all on the foreign film i watched tonight. Christine Mooney says she has been actively writing poetry for 7 years and is a studying history and anthropology at North Carolina State University. Today's Situation
