Poetry || SubmissionsluminousBy Leslie Cohen welded to the swivel stool glasses on my bridge I pick up the spool of metal conductive wire core of a fluourescent light we are to be a lamp unto the nations I wrap the wire, pull it through the plastic loop component parts in line tidy row of ballasts core of a fluourescent lamp my people a light unto the nations repetitive work morning takes a week to pass dull moments welded into history fabric of my earthly shroud I fashion the core of illumination a lamp will shine the comet passes overhead a tail of light against forever orbiting in relentless pattern core of a celestial flame a light unto the heavens I scan the night for revelation. Do you wonder, too? Or, are you welded into the sky like I in my chair? torch unto whom? we are shards splinters of fire spewed from the Big Bang raining with a sigh into the Black star flame into star dust into chaos into form into forms you and me are memories A Flower Day Today is a flower day: slate blue heavens gift Earth with a mist that gentles the baby blossoms to uncurl in their buds dreaming nuances of green - the color of your eyes still peering into mine as I stand here my tears dampening the unborn gardens that yearn to flower on your grave. About Leslie Cohen: I am a member of Kibbutz Ein Hashofet, where I have been teaching English at the local elementary school for almost 20 years. I also teach English writing and methodology courses at two colleges - the Oranim College of Education (near Haifa) and the Arab Teachers College of Education, Haifa. I am a freelance writer, with book reviews appearing frequently in the Jerusalem Post. I have also had many poems published in a variety of journals and anthologies. My most absorbing project at the moment is the biography of a Holocaust survivor, which I am writing with a member of my kibbutz. I also have an unpublished novella which I am seeking to publish.
