Poetry || SubmissionsThe Blue PlateBy Janet I. BuckThe sky is a shattered blue platewe can't return to the store. Islamabad, Bombay, Beirut, today Najaf...where thousands of shoes, body parts of worshippers litter the wreck of perpetual wrath. Love is a language no one is speaking with proper resolve. Coffins carried through the streets are all we have for bright parades. Pick a square upon the map, listen as the sirens wail. Musty textbooks of prayers do not absolve flaming crimes that dot the news -- clouds of tired meringue are tinged with an ominous gray and we thirst for a rainbow of quinine and color. Most any busy marketplace, most any shrine, most any bridge, most any landmark on the soil could be mosaics of a tomb. One world is all we have, yet bloodshed binds its cracks.
