Poetry || SubmissionsRadical Amazement (In memory of Abraham Heschel)by Alex Gavrilovich Circle twice the stone cold cave and in its depths the silence echoes and ivy is the cloth I wear and God's sweet birds my only friends in need And the city of God is indeed the city of men and both are found on the face of Gaia for we occupy both in space but aware of each at different moments in time Experience the joys of creation by day and celebrate this day's bread and wine and celebrate the company of fellow men and women And in the night give thanks to your creator To the wonder that envelops To the mystery which shatters the soul with bittersweet delight For in those moments of radical amazement you do not see his shadow any more and if you do he is but a good familiar friend, here to mark the time that was alloted, here to make that time more precious and better used His scathe no longer limits your horizon as the sweet honey of morning gold flows through your veins, and as your awareness plays with the painting you love so dearly for your mind still did not finish making love to it, nor did it finish pleasuring the melody that brightens your smile. And all is well on God's green earth And in my heart another day of awe embedded, Another gift parcel from the almighty, Another bestowment of infinite love upon his Gaia children Another moment in the city of men, entwined by divine hand with the city of God For those who will only slow down each day to play and pray As both really are the same to him.
