Lack of control
further demands
unreasonable
unnegociable
to live in some
far-off future
that never arrives
in the present
imperfect tense
impatient at
mere perfection
or the din
of delirious
multitudes
yet still unable
to rise or exit the skin
or to enter the sky
or even to read
one's own name
in foreign magazines
is not enough
never enough.


John Birkbeck is the producer and host of a local cable TV show called "The Poets' Corner." He has published five books of poems and has appeared in numerous journals, zines, anthologies world wide.
