Jan Rosenberg Jan Rosenberg is what Southerners call a "Damn Yankee." Born and raised in New England, she moved to the South after receiving the Ph.D. in Folklore and Folklife from the University of Pennsylvania. And once she moved South, she stayed. That's what Damn Yankees do. Rosenberg is a folklorist, a student of traditional culture and communities. Her specialty is in developing educational materials for public schools and organizations so students can document their own traditions. Her research interests include the history of folklore and education, African American and Southern gospel music, and the cultures of occupational groups, including loggers and cowboys. Rosenberg is President of Heritage Education Resources, a non profit organization whose mission is to develop and provide resource materials and services for the exploration of heritage and cultural diversity. Founded in 1996, Heritage Education has provided services to public schools, community action agencies, and conservation districts. Rosenberg makes her home in Oklahoma City. She is joined by her dog Phoebe, cat Insert, and parakeet Ruhig. In addition to her work with Heritage Education Resources, she is a part-time chaplain at Presbyterian Hospital.
