Peace Watch is a watchdog group established to monitor compliance with peace agreements between Israel and her Arab neighbors, with the goal of preventing violations. Peace Watch seeks to draw international public attention to the commitments that the parties have made and to their subsequent actions with regard to these commitments. In this way, Peace Watch hopes to deter violations, encourage compliance, and so contribute to an atmosphere of mutual trust necessary for bringing about a genuine peace.

Members of the public board, called the Peace Watch Committee, represent a broad spectrum of political outlooks, from peace movement and Hashomer Hatzair kibbutzim on the left to the settlement movement on the right, but are united in their belief that peace can only be achieved through scrupulous compliance with signed international agreements.

The Peace Watch staff gathers information concerning compliance with the treaties, and catalogues relevant stories from the wire services and from the media. The legal advisory team, in consultation with experts in international law, renders opinion on interpreting obligations which arise from the treaties. Both staff assist journalists in writing stories and seek public awareness of compliance and non-compliance through press conferences, news releases, reports, and in-depth seminars and conferences.

Today's Situation

"The army that will defeat terrorism doesn't wear uniforms, or drive Humvees, or calls in air-strikes. It doesn't have a high command, or high security, or a high budget. The army that can defeat terrorism does battle quietly, clearing minefields and vaccinating children. It undermines military dictatorships and military lobbyists. It subverts sweatshops and special interests.Where people feel powerless, it helps them organize for change, and where people are powerful, it reminds them of their responsibility." ~~~~ Author Unknown ~~~~
