NISPED was established in 1998 with a view to promote peace and development focused on the centrality of the civil society: the voluntary, people-centered, non-governmental groups and organizations who seek to work with each other on the issues of conflict-resolution and the advance of sustainable human development. It is clear that without the advance in satisfaction of people's basic human needs, there can be no durable peace. Situated less than fifteen minutes from the Gaza Strip, NISPED's immediate concern is with our own region while we do work with third-world countries as well.
NISPED serves as a center for education, training, and project development in societies undergoing fundamental processes of transformation. The programs we conduct with Palestinian NGOs include such topics as democracy, leadership training, human resource development, women's empowerment and support systems for entrepreneurship. The uniqueness of NISPED lies in our approach to conduct each program for Palestinian participants together with a partner Palestinian organization. This partnership includes the joint design, planning and carrying out of each program or project which is held half in Israel and half in the Palestinian Authority.
NISPED is a registered, non-profit association and an affiliate of the Negev College, one of Israel's major regional higher education institutions, where it enjoys full academic and administrative independence. Certificates of the college are awarded to participants who successfully complete programs of study of the Institute. NISPED seeks to cooperate with like-minded organizations and frameworks in Israel and abroad. The NISPED staff is committed to the creation of an institution of quality, which will contribute to the furtherance of peace and development in our geographical region and across the globe.
It is clear that for
democracy to flourish in Israel, it is imperative that all citizens enjoy full and
equal rights. To this end, NISPED established AJEEC - the Arab-Jewish Center
for Equality, Empowerment and Cooperation. The goals of AJEEC are
three-fold: striving for equality in all aspects of life; empowerment of the
Palestinian-Israeli community; cooperation between the Jewish and Arab populations.
AJEEC is developing programs in the fields of education, leadership and
employment.
"The army that will defeat terrorism doesn't wear uniforms, or drive
Humvees, or calls in air-strikes. It doesn't have a high command, or
high security, or a high budget. The army that can defeat terrorism
does battle quietly, clearing minefields and vaccinating children. It
undermines military dictatorships and military lobbyists. It subverts
sweatshops and special interests.Where people feel powerless, it
helps them organize for change, and where people are powerful, it
reminds them of their responsibility." ~~~~ Author Unknown ~~~~
