Kav Yarok: THE GREEN LINE - STUDENTS DRAW THE LINE

description: THE GREEN LINE - STUDENTS DRAW THE LINE is a young movement founded in November 2001 by a group of students at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. The founders of the movement felt that the Peace Camp in Israel was unable to recover from the blow it suffered from the outbreak of violent events in the Occupied Territories and that it failed to present an alternative to the Government's policy. Members of this movement share a common awareness, namely that the Occupied Territories are a burden, not an asset. Thirty-five years of rule over the Territories, starting a long time before the soldiers serving there now were born, have shown that ending the occupation is in the sheer interest of Israel. From the security aspect as well as from the economic, social and moral ones, carrying on the occupation and the settlement of the Territories is a catastrophe for the Jewish State, as well as an ordeal and affliction to the Palestinian people.
GREEN LINE offers a new framework for action, attracting since its initial stages many young people who wish to live in a just and moral society and who believe that the first step towards the fulfillment of their dream is in putting an end to Israeli rule over the Palestinian people.

Today's Situation

"The army that will defeat terrorism doesn't wear uniforms, or drive Humvees, or calls in air-strikes. It doesn't have a high command, or high security, or a high budget. The army that can defeat terrorism does battle quietly, clearing minefields and vaccinating children. It undermines military dictatorships and military lobbyists. It subverts sweatshops and special interests.Where people feel powerless, it helps them organize for change, and where people are powerful, it reminds them of their responsibility." ~~~~ Author Unknown ~~~~
