An invitation to be of service...
The Compassionate Listening project provides an opportunity to advance Jewish-Palestinian reconciliation, to learn a powerful technique for conflict resolution, and to help build the international constituency for Israeli-Palestinian peace-building endeavors.
Compassionate Listening is a project of Mid-East Citizen Diplomacy, a U.S. based non-profit organization. Since 1990, MECD has led 15 delegations to Israel, the West Bank and Gaza. We have built respectful and trusted relationships at every level of Israeli and Palestinian society, and extend an invitation to you to join us in entering both societies very deeply to listen, learn, and build bridges of understanding. Our work focuses on bridging the gap between Jews/Israelis and Palestinians from East Jerusalem, the West Bank and Gaza.
Delegations journey to Israel and the Palestinian territories to deepen their understanding of the suffering of all parties to the conflict, and to initiate and support peace-building efforts.
Each delegation begins with an intensive training in Compassionate Listening as a tool for reconciliation, led by a professional trainer.
We then listen to and dialogue with Israelis and Palestinians?from leaders to regular citizens throughout Israel, the West Bank and Gaza, and build bridges and support those already engaged in dialogue and reconciliation work.
This project is based on the premise that peace comes through the hard work of meeting one's enemy -- the human being behind the stereotype -- and acknowledging one another's suffering. To help reconcile conflicting parties, we must have the ability to understand the suffering of both sides.
The Compassionate Listening project seeks to:
Increase the number of people working for Israeli/Jewish-Palestinian reconciliation;
Strengthen and support the work of Israelis and Palestinians currently involved in dialogue and peace-building initiatives;
Foster new Jewish-Palestinian ally relationships;
Create new strategies for peace-building;
Offer a powerful conflict resolution tool which will serve participants for life.
"The army that will defeat terrorism doesn't wear uniforms, or drive
Humvees, or calls in air-strikes. It doesn't have a high command, or
high security, or a high budget. The army that can defeat terrorism
does battle quietly, clearing minefields and vaccinating children. It
undermines military dictatorships and military lobbyists. It subverts
sweatshops and special interests.Where people feel powerless, it
helps them organize for change, and where people are powerful, it
reminds them of their responsibility." ~~~~ Author Unknown ~~~~
