I. Frost's Selected Quotations

Everything at Amazon by and about: Steve Jobs

Be a yardstick of quality. Some people aren't used to an environment where excellence is expected.

To turn really interesting ideas and fledgling technologies into a company that can continue to innovate for years, it requires a lot of disciplines

I was worth about over a million dollars when I was twenty-three and over ten million dollars when I was twenty-four, and over a hundred million dollars when I was twenty-five and ehm it wasn't that important ehm because I never did it for the money

Sometimes when you innovate, you make mistakes. It is best to admit them quickly, and get on with improving your other innovations.

You can't just ask customers what they want and then try to give that to them. By the time you get it built, they'll want something new.

I want to put a ding in the universe.

So we went to Atari and said, 'Hey, we've got this amazing thing, even built with some of your parts, and what do you think about funding us? Or we'll give it to you. We just want to do it. Pay our salary, we'll come work for you.' And they said, 'No.' So then we went to Hewlett-Packard, and they said, 'Hey, we don't need you. You haven't got through college yet

A lot of companies have chosen to downsize, and maybe that was the right thing for them. We chose a different path. Our belief was that if we kept putting great products in front of customers, they would continue to open their wallets

It took us three years to build the NeXT computer. If we'd given customers what they said they wanted, we'd have built a computer they'd have been happy with a year after we spoke to them - not something they'd want now.

My girlfriend always laughs during sex - no matter what she's reading.

You cannot mandate productivity, you must provide the tools to let people become their best

You go to your TV to turn your brain off. You go to the computer when you want to turn your brain on

I think we're having fun. I think our customers really like our products. And we're always trying to do better

Expose yourself to the best things humans have done and then try to bring those things into what you are doing.

Innovation distinguishes between a leader and a follower

I wish him the best, I really do. I just think he and Microsoft are a bit narrow. He'd be a broader guy if he had dropped acid once or gone off to an ashram when he was younger.

Apple's market share is bigger than BMW's or Mercedes's or Porsche's in the automotive market. What's wrong with being BMW or Mercedes?

If Albert Einstein were alive today, he'd use a Mac, and you know it

Pretty much, Apple and Dell are the only ones in this industry making money. They make it by being Wal-Mart. We make it by innovation.

To go forward, you have to leave something behind.

The people who are doing the work are the moving force behind the Macintosh. My job is to create a space for them, to clear out the rest of the organization and keep it at bay.

HAL is the perfect spokesperson to address the Y2K issue because he lives in the year 2001 and can speak from experience. Plus, HAL is the world's foremost expert on things that can go wrong with computers

Creativity is just connecting things. When you ask creative people how they did something, they feel a little guilty because they didn't really do it, they just saw something. It seemed obvious to them after a while. That's because they were able to connect experiences they've had and synthesize new things. And the reason they were able to do that was that they've had more experiences or they have thought more about their experiences than other people
