Giorgio Armani

I had no formal training, so that was the most incredible thing about it. The fact I didn't have formal training. I learnt everything on my own, and I really had to sweat it out

My philosophy has always been to help women and men feel comfortable and confident through the clothes they wear.

I think what keeps me young is the work. Is working from nine to nine everyday, whether you are working with department stores, or publishers or different teams within the company. This is a great exercise. The older you get, the more active you are, the younger you stay

And I've always had the example of my parents in front of me - they had no money, but they had a certain dignity and respect for others.

I'll tell you something: Luxury disgusts me

A beautiful woman is a woman who doesn't let you live. You're always terrified that this woman is going to leave you, that she's going to get bored and run off with someone else...

My energies are concentrated in my hands when I touch fabric. I think that my constant, almost maniacal research on fabrics is one of the reasons behind my success.

I know I have some stores in China that have nothing to do with me. On the other hand, it's flattering to be copied. If you are copied, you are doing the right thing

Footballers today are the modern day gladiators - they have become icons both on and off the field

(as a boy) I was an observer. I liked to listen rather than openly express myself. This trait is something that I've retained over the years.

Every moment that I make a choice - that is what makes the world of Armani

But I have before me the reality of shops and customers that stops me changing too much. People look to me for Armani.

I always knew when something was wrong, like a fork out of place at the dinner table. Later, I learned how to make it right

Maybe it's much better to have a woman who's not so beautiful but who becomes somebody very beautiful to you in private.

(style is) The only real luxury that anyone can afford to indulge

I wanted to dedicate my future to helping others - a very romantic vision. Of course, I discovered during my university studies that being in the medical field is a job like others, not only a mission.

It would be very hard for me to do things somebody else's way

The goal I seek is to have people refine their style through my clothing without having them become victims of fashion.

Things can become too static. It is the nature of fashion to take risks. I always try to change within my spirit, to solve problems and transmit different messages. But I have before me the reality of shops and customers that stops me changing too much. People look to me for Armani

There's not a lot of difference between a piece of furniture and a piece of clothing: both have to feel good when you come into physical contact with them

I hope in three years I will find a solution, that it could be like a rebirth; that I could find someone or a group of people and that the brand will continue - maybe even with new splendor.

We had no idea what we were doing, only that we wanted to do it

I asked myself what can I do that is design, yet different, that is modern and has my signature?

I believe that style is the only real luxury that is really desirable.

I did it my way
