5759 MIDDLE EAST PEACE QUILT For years, many Palestinians and Israeli Jews have struggled to find a way to live in peace, a way that would allow both peoples to live with dignity and security in their own homeland. In this year of 50th anniversary celebrations of the founding of the modern state of Israel many people have forgotten that the original 1947 United Nations vote was to partition the land into two states, one for Jews and one for Palestinian Arabs, with Jerusalem becoming an international city. What is your vision of peace in the Middle East? You are invited to offer it to the world in the form of a square for the Middle East Peace Quilt. When it is finished this quilt will travel and form a basis for discussion and dialogue. Quilt squares should be 9 inches (22.8 cm) square plus a half inch (1.3 cm) border on all four sides. In other words the piece of fabric you submit will be 10 inches (25.4 cm.) square. The image may be stitched, painted, or worked in any other way, as long as the fabric remains flexible. If you can afford it please enclose five dollars to cover the cost of putting together the quilt. If you don't want to work with fabric, you may send us a photograph or drawing of the image you want on the quilt, of any size up to 12 inches square along with an additional $10 to pay for transferring it to fabric. If your image is not square it will be cropped to fit the format. Please include a 200 word statement on what your square means to you. Cheques should be made out to "Middle East Peace Quilt". Keep in mind submissions will become a permanent part of the quilt and will not be returned. Deadline for submissions is: December 31, 1998. Please send submissions to:
