To the Secretary of State of the United States and State Department Officials: Please make 'People to People' projects in the Middle East a priority funding issue. Without them, the Peace Process has little chance of success. Both Israelis and Palestinians are subject to well orchestrated and well financed hate campaigns, in addition to the barriers of history and culture that separate us. Peace can come only if we can overcome these negative efforts and establish trust and personal relationships between our peoples, though the instruments of education for peace and dialog. There are currently many small dialog efforts and peace projects - some completely unfunded, and most poorly funded. Examples include: - WINDOWS - a Hebrew/Arabic magazine for high-school students, sorely in need of funds. - Palestine Israel Journal - a joint Palestinian/Israeli publication - Rapprochement Dialog Center - Beit Sahour Dialog group - Hope Flowers School Non-Violence project - Ariga - an internet site devoted largely to peace and peace efforts and funded entirely voluntarily. - IPCRI - which has many projects, including a pilot peace education program - PEACE - e-mail dialog and peace initiative group. - Fear Free Future - a Palestine/Israeli children's mosaic art project. - Open House - Arab Israeli Dialog All of these projects, programs and groups could be greatly expanded if there were money for operating costs, preparing materials and publicity. There are also plans for many projects that cannot be implemented at all owing to lack of funds: - A peace encyclopedia on computer media - Joint historical research projects - Internet 'peace center' and common database of dialog organizations At present these projects can make little headway. A reasonably small investment can yield large dividends for peace. Thank you for your attention, Sincerely, - Your nme, address, etc. -Copy the message, then click on Secretary of State Madeline Albright Also send copies to: Rena Gibbs and Shirley Adams
