5759 "Unprecedented compassion and creativity is needed for a true peace process to go to completion." - Ambassador Dennis Ross Just wanted to share with you something nice which happened today: About 100 Israelis went to the village of Katana in the West Bank and together with Palestinians re-built a house that had been demolished a while ago by the Israeli army (for being built without a permit), leaving a family of 15 homeless. We encountered a bit of problems from the army in the morning, but they then left us alone. We worked all day, got a lot done, but of course most important is that Israelis& Palestinians together did something good. I'm sure it left a lasting impression on everyone there, especially on the dozens of Palestinian kids who were there with us, who had probably never had a positive experience with Israeli till today. Next week we'll go to Borin, a village near Nablus, to pick olives with the Palestinians, since the settlers of Yizhar (who, together with those of Hebron, are perhaps the nastiest and most vicious of the settlers) harrass them on a regular basis and shoot over their heads when they work their lands, etc. There are also some other similar things going on. I should send you the website address of the Peace Block - they write about all these activities, although they involve peace activists from many organizations. Next week's olive picking is by Peace Now I think. SO, there is some good news after all.... Bye, Adina Friedman Olive-harvest in Burin, Saturday 17.10.98 Help insure the harvest at Burin, and help resist Yitzhar settlers sabotage of the harvest.
