  • Kosovo Ariga is in favor of NATO's attempt to get the Serbs to the negotiating table over Kosovo and in favor of using force against the force used by the Milosovec regime. Principled opposition to the use of violence when genocide is taking place is no help at all to the situation. Yes, humans are smarter than animals. But when they behave like animals, smarts aren't always the best way to get them to behave like humans. March 29 1999
  • Ariga friend and corresondent Alan Kaufman, poet and impressario of ideas, has opened TATOO JEW, a highly recommended literary zine with an attitude for, by, and about Jews. Very not-Commentary, Tikkun or the Forward. Very hip, hop, and full of bop. Pay it a visit.

The site includes articles, links, essays, actionr eports, announcements and plenty of information about Making peace between Israelis & Palestinians ... Sexuality, spirituality, and the dangers that arise from on the one hand utterly severing them and on the other hand con-fusing them: the dangers of sexual abuse by siritual leaders, and how to prevent it ... A unified theory of Eco-Judaism, from biblical times to the present crisis in the relationships of adam and adamah -- human-earthlings and the earthy- humus ... And many other delicious explorations ofhow to apply Jewish renewal to the task of healing the broken world.

    Aryeh Deri's Wife

Her assurance is not so easily stirred. If you say to her,
Yaffa, what you and your husband have done,
is ugly, she will point to the skies and wish
you understood how true faith in the Lord
    gives strength

    I am sure
    that some of my ancestors
    were murdered
    By people who were
    just as assured.

    Poem by Karen Alkalay-Gut
